The Making of the Curvy Guardians

The Making of the Curvy Guardians

A behind the scenes look at how we turned these plus size ladies into plus size super heroes.

From our Director of Marketing: I had a vision of unusual proportions. Ignited by frustrations, both personal and communal, I wanted to create a campaign that celebrates plus size women larger than a size 18. Like any action story, there have and always will be a villain. Physical or abstract, the kind of villain I envisioned was one that does some of the worst damage, damage to the self-esteem and self-confidence. The only way I know how to defeat this self-doubt is with confidence and community- so that’s what I created. I feel strongly that plus size fashion should be diversified. That plus size fashion can be admirable. That plus size fashion is best represented with confidence. Because confidence can overcome any insecurity or fatshamer. And through these feelings and experienced, I imagined a world where plus size women were super heroes - defenders of fashion equality and self-love revivalists.

Plus Size Fashion Blogger Alysse Dalessandro of @readytostare

Alysse wrote on her blog, "I have often bemoaned plus size campaigns for not using models in their lookbooks that reflect their customers and not only is there a new lookbook featuring models up to size 5X BUT I'm in it! SWAK's new Curvy Guardians campaign is all about challenging fashion rules and wearing what you want! That is definitely a message that I can get behind. The energy at this shoot was so positive and amazing! I felt so empowered being around this strong group of women and spreading this message. I cannot stress the significance of a brand doing a campaign that features only women sizes 20+. THAT IS HUGE." Read the rest of her blog here

Plus Size Fashion Blogger Marcy Cruz of @fearlesslyjustme

Marcy wrote on her blog, "These are the kind of campaigns I personally think should be seen and go viral. We truly need to see more body diversity overall and that is something I feel very passionate about. My journey is far from over and I will continue to do my part in being a strong voice for those women who feel ignored, passed over and not marketed to. Fashion is for everyone!"
